Network connections stopped working; new connections give "Folder you entered does not appear valid" error
I've had my win7 laptop for about 3 weeks now. I have an older XP machine upstairs. I created links to several web folders using the info from my old machine, and everything worked fine. Today, when I went to open one of my network locations (FTP web hosting), where it normally is under "Computer," there was only a file inside called Target.lnk . Normally you see the web folder contents. I had 2 network locations like this, and both worked fine a week ago, and now show the above behavior. Additionally, if I try to create a new network location, or map a new network drive, I get an error, "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another." I know the folder is valid b/c I can navigate to it in my web browsers, and log in with my FTP credentials. So, what's going on? I've read that Win7 has issues with web folders, but both locations worked a week ago! Any help would be appreciated. -- Mo

Is this issue only with Webfolders or with network shares on LAN too? See if this helps "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another" error when you use "Add a network connection" to connect to a nested WebDAV subfolder in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2560598 2468498 Error message when you access a WebDAV resource in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows 7: "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid" http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;2468498 You receive a "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid" error message when you try to create a Network Place shortcut to SharePoint Portal Server 2003 or to Windows SharePoint Services http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888039 Sumesh P - Microsoft Online Community Support

Same problem on my system (Win7 Professional 32bit). Suddenly the network place link did not work one day to another - it uses ftp protocol. Interestingly I could connect with the same parameters to the ftp server from an other machine. I've deleted the link and tried to create a new one, but I got an error message "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another.". The Add Network Place window shows some examples of connection types, but I have to use ftp protocol. I've tried to create a shortcut to ftp.microsoft.com with the same result. I've installed the hotfix Fix353462, but it did not solve the problem. Sorry Sumesh, it seems yor suggestions are not useful for me. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
